Usually, my players are looking for equipment and treasure most often. The type of gear? It really depends on the setting, I think. In a fantasy game, magic items are the most often sought after. Espescially ones that help with A. carrying capacity like bags of holding type stuff and B. things that help them camp anywhere safely. Things my players love finding that they aren't seeking out are things like clockwork pets, collectables (a random NPC gnome tinkerer is looking for very specific springs and they're only found in lockets, now my players are really excited to find a locket even though it's only worth like 5 gold.)
As in stuff to help play/run the game or gear within it?
Never trust the dice
More thinking stuff to add to the game, for players or even NPCs to use.

The clockwork pet is a really cool idea. Its a interesting and different take on familiars as well
